How Does the Flappers Represent the New Women? Were the 1920's Successful for the Women's Movement?
Flappers were the first group of women who went against society's norm and did whatever they wanted to. Flapper represented the new women because of their radical ideas and freedom. Having obtain their right to vote when the nineteenth amendment was passed, they did not want to conform to society's view of them. The nineteenth amendment was also responsible for the success of women's movement in the 1920's. It gave them a new sense of freedom in which they would have a say in society.

In the 1920's women adopted a more liberated lifestyle and fashions characterized by their shorter skirts and bobbed hairdos along with their enjoyment of drinking, immoderate makeup, driving cars and smoking. They abandon the old Victorian ways to live a life of freedom and did not want to be bonded to their traditional role as house wives. They took more risk and are acted more independent. These women were known as Flappers. Flappers dressed more causal to be able to move easier. Every articles of clothing were trimmed down. Dresses and skirts were so short it was all the way up to the knee. They also venture outside to look for entertainments and opportunities instead of just living in their homes. They were all very rebellious. Flappers are fast living women who are characterized by their sexual behavior as well. They smoke, drive, and did things that only men could do before. Some even drank alcohol.
